  • Tag on Differential

I picked up a rear end out of a 58 hawk yesterday and was checking it over when I found one of the two tags has a "T" stamping on it. Is this an indicator of twin-traction? The other tag showed 3.31 ratio. I pulled the fill plug and it looks like a twin-traction.

Yes the "T" is Twin Traction, but the final test was the large Clutch Drum you found right close to the cover leaving no doubt.

If it is still a H.D. Dana 44 for V-8s as it should be, you will see the "44" cast in the lower, right hand Web where the Pumpkin joins the axle Tube.

Also, a Twin Traction will have both axles spin in the same direction when you turn one side.
