Anybody have an R2 with Pertronix ignitor and MSD 6AL/MSD coil with an operating stock tach? Mine has never worked. The PO had several "experts" try to figure it out, to no avail. I've checked all the tech notes I could find and have been referred to experts who supposedly could tell me what I need to do but so far, nobody could provide an answer. MSD tech is no help. The tach deflects when I apply 1.5 volts to it so I'm fairly sure it's OK. Don't know whether the stock tach sender is working or not or even needed with the MSD stuff. I've tried triggering from the distributor, the MSD tach drive output and an MSD tach adapter to no avail. I have a new tach drive replacement module board that goes inside the can but I don't want to replace it until I'm sure I know how it's supposed to be hooked up. I'm using an MSD 8981 timing computer with a locked distributor, if that makes any difference.

On my R-2 I have the pertronix ignition modual & coil but I dont have anything else added as you have the MSD box. My tach is connected the same as originally & works fine. Have you called the MSD tech line? Do you still have dual points or have you converted that too?59 Lark wagon, now V-8, H.D. auto!

On my brothers 63 Avanti R2 I converted the dual point distributor to the Pertronix module and replaced the original tach board with the unit SI sells. The tach worked fine, but the distributor itself didn't perform as well as it should have. We then bought the Mallory distributor from Dave T., which really works well, as does the tach. I've heard comments that the MSD stuff works well, but the tach is adversely affected. I don't have any info as to what happens or how to remedy the issue, so I'd suggest you continue to search the electronic geniuses that are out there. If and when you find a solution, you would do all of Studedom a huge favor to post your results. Thanks, hope this helps in some way, Bill,
