  • Speedo / Tach / Gauges: Speaking of light bulbs...

I have a few instrument bulbs burnt out and was looking in the 50 owner's manual for what to buy. I see listed "directional signal {front, rear, tell-tale... #1158, #1129 and #55. What the??? Can someone enlighten me here?

My signal arrows are out and the main "black light" light, but the high beam indicator works, so I think I just need three bulbs.

EDIT -- I'm sorry, i was looking at the manual wrong. I thought those three were all instrument bulbs. So "tell-tale" is their version of "high beam" I'm guessing?

#55 should be the small dash indicators. My guess is rears are dual filament and fronts are single filament. I'm not sure exactly what your question is though.

Tell-Tale Headlight Beam is your dash indicator 6-8 Mazda No. 51, 1/2 candlepower. Directional Signal Front is 6-8 Mazda No. 1158, 21-3 candlepower; meaning the directional filament is 21 and the park filament is 3. Directional signal Rear is 6-8 Mazda No. 1129, 21 candlepower. Directional Signal Tell-Tale is your dash indicators 6-8 Mazda No. 55, 1-1/2 candlepower.

"Tell-Tale" tells the tale of what's going on (and off ) with your turn signals. Green arrows on dash.
