  • Door hinge screws

Has anyone substituted hex head bolts instead of the philips head screws
? I have a feeling the tapered head of screw was used for a reason.
    Thanks

I think they used 82 degree phillips flat head screws because they knew they would be easier to drill out 50 years later.

      Technically, aren't they oval-head screws?

The 82-degree angle of the screw matches the taper countersunk in the hinge. Where would one go to find 82-degree taper hex head screws anyway? And wouldn't the heads it the door when it tried to close? Bottom line, the door hinge screws are a very specialized piece of hardware and I've never seen anything close to an interchange.
