  • Avanti Upholstery

    Hi There,
I am restoring a 63 R2 Avanti. I am looking for upholstery tips. I was going to get a kit from southeastern studebaker but cannot find them now. I have the orange interior and I want to stay stock. Does anyone know where I can get a kit. I am also looking for the orange and black carpet and fawn headliner. thanks for your help.

The headliner is available from several sources.

I bought a kit and took it to our local high-end custom car upholstry shop for installlation. They said they could have made me a better set for the same price.
If there is a very good shop near you, you might ask them about it. The basic seat covers aren't rocket science.

Apparently not. I've seen several style combinations listed. Black carpet with Turquoise interior is definitely listed.

              Weren't all-black carpets offered in 64?
So they could have been offered on late 63s.
The documentation is pretty clear, when new, most 63s had salt & pepper.

Could all black have been a special order? Maybe. Dd Studebaker cut its own carpet? If so, they could have done it.
If done by an outside contractor, it would have taken more work/coordination.

A lot of 63s have black carpets...including mine that had an otherwise original interior.
Long story short, over almost 50 years carpet was often replaced and salt & pepper appearently wasn't available for a long time.
