The standard transmission would have a pipe plug on the side of the transmission case. If it is an overdrive transmission there will be a second plug in the overdrive unit. Remove the plug(s) and the lubricant level is correct if it just drips out; same as checking level in the differential.Brad Johnson,

Make sure you only remove the upper plug....you will see 2 plugs , one above the other, bottom one is for when you want to drain the fluid .sigpic

DO NOT use modern gear oil in these transmissions. Use GL-1 (for tractors etc) GL-4, GL-5 will ruin the sychronizers in the transmission.
