  • Fuel System: Tank float sealant

Looks like I found the problem of the '51's gas gauge woes - the cork float was saturated. What do you recommend to seal it after drying out? (One that will hold up to new fuels, if there is such an animal)

Is it still 6 volt or have you made the change to 12 yet? If you have I have an easy and quick fix. If not then it's up to the old school to help out.

Yes, it has been converted to 12 volt, and the gauge has a 'Runtz' installed to convert 12 to 6.

Replace the cork with a brass Ford unit. Takes a little fabrication handiwork but it is the best solution.

Some of the Studebaker parts vendor's here in the States are offerring a Phenolic plastic float you can adapt to the sending unit. Perhaps you can find something similar locally.

I have used brass carb.float for a replacement. It takes a little fab work to use one. Also have used gas tank sealer to recoat one after it dried out.

I've done a bit of Web research and will go the CASO route - clear nail polish. I'll let you know how it goes.
