  • Studebaker stuff in San Diego?

My wife is working in San Diego for ComicCon July 12th - 15th and I'm tagging along. I don't get down to San Diego too much - any good Studebaker/automotive things to do while I'm down there?

And I doubt you will. Not too many of the folks down there take them out for anything but car shows or tours. But there are a few who were crazy enough to drive their Stude everyday. I had a hard time with that at first, but I couldn't conform during my three tours and ten years in town~ Studes were (are) all I drive!!!

You could contact Clark he is from down there. There is also a secondhand shop/thrift store place on coast hiway that uses a Transtar and a Bullet nose for advertising the store. They park them out in front of the store with a sign on them advertising the store. I forget exactly where it is at but I think it is in or near Encinitas or Leucadia right on the ocean side of Coast hiway.

Then if you want to drive up and hour or so you are welcome to come see my disassembled piece of ugly, and you could contact Dean Pearson, he likes to show off his work in progress which will be a real bully.

Deer park winery and car museum - if it's still there - looks really cool. I was in that area in 2006 but had planned to stop there, but din't have the time.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll see what I can fit into my schedule. It looks like the Deer Park Winery is there and is open Friday - might have to be a priority stop.

I just heard this afternoon that a local lady was there to work at ComicCon. I believe in accounting. She was killed crossing the street there. Be careful.

EDIT: From later information, I believe that she was a local accountant that was there to attend the event.

I heard about the woman that was killed - that was very sad. The place can be pure pandimonium. I'm not sure yet if I'm even going - my wife needs to secure a pass for me. The irony is that many people would give their eye teeth to go to ComicCon - me, I wish it was StudeCon!

As it turned out, my wife and I didn't have time to do anything Studebaker while in San Diego. However, we did get a chance to tour the USS Midway - it was fantastic and highly recommended if you ever get to San Diego.
