  • Update....64 Daytona from Hades....

I thought I would share the good news and the not so good news..[}]
Also to let Anne and Leonard...they are not alone....though my issues
    are minor compared to theirs.

On the positive side, the brakes work, just great now....course this
was after finding the fittings to be leaking the brake fluid and 1 line
bursting while on a test drive. We have a new sending unit, for the
gas....along with a "semi" new gauge cluster from "JDP" and now
everything works, including the temp gauge. After installing the 2nd
new fuel pump, from Studeparts.com in Phoenix...we were able to start
it up and ran like a "Champ"[] excuse the verabge....for about 15 min,
then it just died [xx(]....again...The guys took the pump off did a bench
test...had vacuum....took the old pump...bench tested and had a vacuum,
but no vacuum in the line[?] Our next best guess is, that it is an "gizmo"
inside with the cam, that works with the fuel pump, that has broken

Other than that, just another day at "Tumbleweed Flats" [8D]

Your fuel delivery problem may not be the fuel pump. Crud in the tank, crud in the fuel lines, pin hole in fuel line, bad fuel filter, stuck needle and seat.

Thanks Dick...the mechanic belives without knowing for sure, until
he removes the cover to look inside, is that what cause the 1st new
fuel pump to break and then it went south itself, during yesterday's
idling...I will see him tomorrow real early and will make sure they
look at these items as well!

        Thanks again!

I sure hope he knows enough to put the pump arm under the cam and not just stick it in the hole. Before you pay to have the front of the engine pulled off, make damn sure he's at least tried to run the engine off a gas can to eliminate the tank/line. It is possible I guess that a defective, or improperly installed pump knocked the cam loose, but I've never seen it happen.

Make sure you also check the vent tube for the fuel tank. You never know when a winged insect just might decide to make a home in the end of that vent line. The OEM gas caps for,(IMMIC), 62-66 Lark bodied cars, are not vented. The vent tube comes off of the filler neck inside the trunk, goes across the rear body panel, up beside the left tail light, then back down through a rubber grommet in the trunk floor pan. Hope this may help.

Years ago my father had a customer's 67 Chrysler in for a similar problem. After his usual diagnostic procedure we pulled the gas tank and found a grasshopper wedged head-first into the pickup! My father determined that the grasshopper would fall out after the car sat a while, then run fine; but on random occasions (usually when the gas got low) it would get sucked up and stop the car again!

That solved the problem; never gave the customer any more trouble in 12 more years!

                        So: You never know!

Hopefully you'll get the problems resolved soon; and then be able to write something GOOD about the poor old girl!

What is wrong with a good flashlight to LOOK at the cam lobe, he should be able to get a clue what is going on, if anything without pulling the whole front end of the engine apart. If you poke the cam lobe with a screwdriver and it moves, then it is loose on the camshaft. Also, what JDP said could be spot-on!
