  • Peking to Paris Race 2007

Just had a look at this website www.pekingparis.com. The race, which has just ended, followed the route of the original 1907 race and was open to cars up to 1970 I believe. One of the competitors (car #111) was a 1950 Commander starlite. In the race info it it listed as a 51. Haven't seen the results yet, so don't know where it finished, but take a look under progress reports at day 26.

Looks like, in the awards category they took 2nd place in class 4
(vehicles from 1941 to 1955)....though the overall results are not
    posted.

Glen - I checked and they came in 5th in the Classic Category (Pre '61). If you looked at the Awards lists they were not among the Top 3.

The drivers Thomas Hayes (Ireland) & Thomas Vann (USA) completed the 8000 mile plus route in 219 hours, 4 minutes, and 7 seconds (about 36.5 days).

The white over orange 1950 Starlite Coupe stood out among the 135 competitors, of which only 118 finished.

Well that is not a road trip for the faint hearted.

It would be a fabulous event to compete in if you can handle the GBP 30-40k fees. Thats a cool 60 - 80k US

Glen - I stand corrected! I just should have scrolled down a little farther.
So what do you suppose the 5 is for in "Overall Pos" on my link. There are many 5's awarded on other cars, and they can't all be 5th overall.

Personally it looks like they need to go back to the
drawing board and start over....you are right the
results make no sense.....maybe they gave them
                        a 5th just by making the finish line. The 1941 - 1955
and 1955 - 1961 became 1 class at the finish.
