  • making a 37 Chevy

This is a very campy movie about making a 1937 Chevy. It makes you remember the old days when we actually made product in the USA

Very interesting to watch. Well before my time. My father was the same age as my grandaughter is now and was probably just as excited to get his first drivers license. Just a few years after the great depression and still a few years before WWII.

Looking at this dandy film with that context in mind made it even more fascinating. And, gee wilikers, there sure were a lot of new Chevys in the street scenes....

Was that made before or after the Great Sit Down Strike at GM?!?!?!

Memories! First car was a 1937 Chevrolet Master Deluxe business coupe purchased in 1948. In a few months I acquired a drivers license. The radio antenna was probably after-market, as it was wire enclosed in straps hanging under the running boards. Installed an outside antenna which improved reception and a needed coolant overflow tank. Huge amount of trunk space.

Thats a great question Craig; I owned a 37 Chevy that I used has a tour car and knew about the sitdown. I think it was a few months of turmoil and made 1937 a poor sales year. In any event I had forgotten about it but i would bet it's a "kiss and make up" sort of public relations move.
