I'm Matthew's Mom - It's taken a good week to recover from from our family bondage, I mean bonding, trip to South Bend. I wanted to say "thanks" to the many, many people I met who are in the forum with Matthew. Some very wonderful gentlemen who made the boy's trip the highlight of his few years of life. I'm not sure who had a better time, Matthew (mbstude) or his grandad (rockinhawk), but it's been pointed out that at one time, when Matthew, myself and my dad were all together in the front seat of the orange truck making laps around the proving grounds, that several pictures did not make it due to the glare of my teeth - I was grinning! I kept thinking how cool, 3 generations in one Stude, sharing the moment....then I got elbowed on both sides as my companions were trying to drive, wave and get the "best" shot. Thanks to all of you who made this adventure a great one.

It was [u]My Pleasure</u> meeting you and Sabrina and the whole family. I have always enjoyed Matthew's posts, but I found him even more interesting in person. He is a real asset to the future of our club.

I don't attend the meets so much to see the cars, I've seen enough Studebaker's over the years. The cars are a part of it, so is the flea market, but the main reason for me is seeing old friends and meeting new ones.

But what about poor Sabrina, who had to tag along not knowing anyone and did not get the rock star reception afforded her older brother? I only hope that she is an active member of the Barbi forum and young Matthew has to tag along to their convention!!! :D[8][}:)]

By the way, I did make it a point to call out to her as Dick Steinkamp and I were doing the parade on Thursday.

That was you! She was so excited that she was recognized! She didn't even mind being called "Matthew's sister" - she went by a few names - aliases you know, just in case someone might know her. She's outgrown the barbie phase, but has her own summer camp at the beach that we are NOT allowed to go on with her. She was a pretty good sport and likes the Studes more that she'll admit - or likes the boys they attract anyway. I figure if we keep her around car shows enough we'll maybe merge with another family with a bigger stock pile than us! Then, we'll continue to build our Studebaker empire! One highlight was a lady who overheard us talking and said, "I take it by your accent you're from the South?" Sabrina looked at me and said, "mama, we have an an ack-sint?" She had no clue! She thought everybody in South Bend did!

I can do no better than to echo what 41Frank just said. Matthew was pretty much as I (we) had surmized from his time on the forum here. It would've been a big shock if the rest of the family wasn't just as nice!;)

Rebekah,

It was good to meet you and Matt. I also enjoyed meeting and talking with Neil. We Forum nuts all felt like a part of your family already, from chatting and sharing on the Web. Sorry I missed meeting Sabrina, although I believe I saw her at the downtown gathering.

It has even been fun kidding Matt about not getting my truck ride. I hope I get to see you all again at future Studebaker events.

Gosh I sure wish I could have been in South Bend to meet all of you fine Folks in person. But just hearing all the heart warming stories will have to suffice. I feel as I'm sure others do too that we are all kindred spirits. Seems like we've known each other all of our lives. Its so great for a family to do these things together. Your family and your extended Studebaker Family. Thanks for the Memories.

Your post listed Matthew as a "boy". I, and many others, will endorse his promotion to "fine young man". It was a pleasure to finally meet him (and Sabrina) in South Bend. Our club needs more men like him and his grandfather - and women like you.

Thank you all for the kind sentiments. My husband and I had a good time putting names with faces. It's good to be able to share this with Matthew. My husband wasn't very "Stude Inclined" and admits he "married into this mess" - he now has a '56 and the 1964 Wagonaire that is the subject of Sabrina's dismay. He allowed her to go to a school dance-for one hour - a year or so ago - but only if he dropped her off in the Wagonaire - which is a REALLY cool car - it's one of my favorites, good paint job, nice interiors - everything works - she would have DIED riding with me in my Lark in high school with the spray can paint job and headliner held up with safety pins, a hand-choke and doors that flew open if you took a turn too close....Anyway, she argued for 15 minutes about a 1/2 mile drive to the school. He reminded her that she was wasting her hour at the dance and most people would already be inside anyway- she lived through it, but was NOT happy. The car is still as she claims, EVIL. We enjoy giving her grief.

It was a pleasure to speak with you on the phone regarding the seats that Matt had for sale. I picked them up on monday at etown and could not believe my eyes at the condition. If only more people were so honest in what they were selling. Thank Matt and his grandfather for putting up with the delivery difficulties. look forward to seeing you folks in Pa thanks again steve

I had a ball with my family and friends at south bend. It was great to meet ya'll folks, and see old friends again, but did anyone notice Matthew's grandma? she was there too. She is also a STUDE OWNER. She has a 47 M, 63 GT, and 81 Avanti II. You know, I usta be known as the Studebaker man, or the brick mason in the cowboy hat. When my daughter became a public figure in our town, I became known as Rebekah's dad. now it seems my claim to fame is Matthew's Grandad! Thats OK, I'll take it all and wear it with pride... NT

Yes I have been Mistaken for Hank jr. but that's usually when I'm in the Cadillac instead of a stude. Hank and I are the same age but for some reason my beard turned gray but his didn't! Talk about Grandma and the Avanti! You should try to catch that thing on a rural Ga. back road. It's all a good hawk can do to keep up with her. NT
