Cool/Heat: Heater hose sizes

Previous owner on my 63 Avanti project used 5/8 hose and without consulting the manual, I bought the same to replace. After trying to slide it over the heater core for 15 minutes - and learning new words in the process - I finally "read the directions" in the manual and I'm going back for 3/4" today. duh!
How the PO got these on in the first place is beyond me. Another example of "when all else fails, read the directions". Never too old to learn, I guess.
