  • What block do I have and worth?

I have an NOS block with a Studebaker metal stamped tag bolted on the front with a part number of #1558833. On the rear rail it has a keystone with the number 54 stamped in it. There is no cloverleaf on the front rail.
It does have the cam bearings in it. Just wondering it's worth?
    THANKS

It WAS a complete '63-'64 Full Flow, 289 SHORT BLOCK, someone has stripped it.

It COULD have been sold by Newman & Altman as a bare block, after they sold the 289 Crank, Pistons, Rods, Timing Gears, Camshaft, Timing Cover etc. back in the 1970's.
A word of caution though, I would have it dye checked, pressure tested and carefully inspected before dumping a lot of money into it, because after all these years there are many possibilities as to WHY it is in it's present condition, like a reject or "take off" at the dealer.

Maybe 1 to $400.00 value today, to someone who has a cracked block.

OR, someone wanting to "upgrade" to a full flow block on a rebuild.

I realize that using that term "Upgrade" will be accepted by some and rejected by others!

That is OK, because I too would prefer a '55 to '57 Block that was cast when the tooling was fresher, and there was less core shift, when the Engine will be used for high performance driving.

Bump; Paul, did this help you decide what to do with the Block?

Yes, I was just curious what it was originally because I could not find the part number. I had someone interested in buying it.
          Thanks for your help
