The office J.M. Studebaker first had was last used by Sherwood Egbert. I always think of that office as Egbert's.

Thanks for the pix. I didn't get to the Administration Bldg, so I appreciate seeing the photos. I'm amazed at the terrific condition of the building.
I hope that it will be saved for future use.

What a great old building. I can't believe that it was threatened with demolition. I do have a very minor nit-pick though. The Monon Railroad never ran to South Bend. Michigan City was as close as it got. Thanks for posting the great photos.[]

How about the New York Central and Grand Trunk Railroad tracks to the north of the Studebaker building area?

What about them? That's who used those tracks, NYC and GTW. The Pennsy came into town from the south and used the building right across the street (Bronson St), from the Stude Admin building. Actually, the very last picture on page 2 of the Admin. photos show the old Pennsy station. The Monon didn't come to South Bend.

Ok, my mistake on the Monon. I know that theres a couple of big railroads in the region, the NYC, the GTW, and Pennsy. There was also a couple of local shortlines that serviced the Studebaker plant, of course, and the surrounding regions. I'll make the corrections to that photo. I should do that ASAP as I should know that Pennsy and NYC's trackage were classic for the four track scheme, and that they catered to the Notre Dame traffic coming in and out of the station. I can probably salvage the statement with that Monon interchanged with the major railroads in the region, but didnt run into South Bend.
PS Pardon my historical screwup to the fans who swear by or swear at either of the railroads, my interest lies in the N&W of the 40's and 50's and CB&Q as my parents worked on their lines at one time.
