  • Champ tangles with a Lincoln SUV

Heading to Lowes today & was smacked by a red light runner in a Lincoln Navigator. He pushed me across 3 lanes, narrowly missing traffic waiting on opposite side of road. The right bedside & wheel well took the brunt force. The new Michelin tire is destroyed. The driver left the scene but returned 5 minutes later with his buddy at the wheel. They both left in ambulances complaining of pain. They were under police escort as one had a warrant & neither have driver's licenses. Will post pics when I get the truck back from tow yard. That new paint job lasted 6 months! (The Champ survived better than the Lincoln's front end).

That depresses me that your truck was damaged, but it pleases me that you are ok, I hope you are anyway. Trucks can be fixed.
Sounds like they needed to split to dump their load of dope before the Fuzz showed up.....?

Have your insurance comany go after them to the max.
In fact, think about filing a lawsuit against them just to keep them honest. If they think you're a mean guy, perhaps they won't try to weasel out of their insurance obligation.

Did you tell they cops they left and about the driver switch?

Sure did. In fact the police just called & they're bringing by the accident report on the way back from hospital. I'll just have to deal with this.

Excellent as to the cops being so involved, Robert. Sorry to hear of the Champ, for sure. El-crappo! Bob
We've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.

That's awful, Robert, but I'm glad you are OK. They left, came back having swapped drivers, and were complaining about their pain? sheesh. I have a lead on a good P2 bed in eastern NC, I wanted it, but you may need it. In fact he's got a whole chassis available if you need it. PM me once you are ready.

Update. Officer Piech was here. All his fellow patrolmen felt bad. His family is from South Bend & he visited the museum at Christmas. His Grandfather was a Studebaker employee.
Court date is in April. Car belongs to one of their girlfriends in Jacksonboro, SC. Driver was under suspension & uninsured. He received 3 citations.

In Kansas he would be driving again in a week.
This country needs to get serious about punishing drunk drivers... but since Congress is mostly drunks......

Threaten to file suit against the girlfriend, it's her car...if she has the money for a navigator, she might have some assets she wants to protect.
If threatened with a lawsuit, I bet she'd come up with enough to at least cover your deductable.
As long as idiots can get away with stuff like this, they'll keep doing it. ""Why buy insurance if you have some?"
                        Glad you're okay.

I hope the truck is repairable, too.
I really don't mean to sound like a jerk on this issue, it's just that I'm fed up with a large part of our society (and seemingly getting larger) being less than responsible.

Did a Google Earth search of the driver. She lives in a broken down shack out in the country. Her Lincoln is worth more than the real estate.

glad you're ok!!! but sometimes it takes a few days to feel the results of a impact like that.

don't be too sure about what you found on google earth. sounds like a meth lab or something like that to me. she probably has a nice place in hilton head or mt. pleasant...

get a "good" civil attorney - your postal mailbox will be full in the next few days wanting to handle your case... i haven't gone thru that, but know folks that have + my background in law enforcement...

others that know more, please chime in!

everyone here will help "fix" the champ, as they can...
