I have two 56J's I am working on this winter and one additional I took on trade for one of the two Hawks I just sold which I plan on starting to restore when done with the first, this spring. I want to use Snowcap White as the in between color for all the cars. One car I want a red shade....leaning to GM torch red or something near it. The other two I want to use a color not used on any 56 Golden Hawk before....but remember...needs to be paired with Snowcap White. Any suggestions are welcome. Photos would also be helpful. Thanks for the help...

Air Force Blue Metallic or Sunglow Yellow/Gold look the best with Snowcap, but if you don't want either, I can't help.

I hope the GM Torch Red does not look anything like: Resale Red, Red/Orange, Fire Engine Red, none look good on that style Hardtop and with the Snowcap White. Those make it look like an advertising sign, just in your face "Cheap" IMHO.

I love the blue on Yamaha motorcycles. If you look at the R1 or R6 in their standard blue color there is a hint of purple in the blue, but it is not a blurple color. Just a hint and it is a nice metalic color. The bikes come blue and white and they really pop.
The color just does not pop on a computer screen, you need to see it in person. But I will try to post something.

Thanks for the replies. Kmac.....I like the blue....will look into it further if you say it pops. But I was told house of color will sell you a cd for 50 bucks as follows. You need to supply them a photo of side of car...and the areas you wnt to chang color must be red so they can adapt the phoyo yo their program. At that time you can access HOC's color pallet and click on the red areas and chane the color to see how it will look. If that is true.....goldmine !!!
Keep the suggestions coming but REMEMBER......no stock 56 Golden Hawk suggestions.....thank you.

Ok, Competition yellow pearl metallic. It is a 93? Mazda color. I painted my 70 Mach 1 with this color and is was blinding, especially in the sunlight.

I dont know what colors were originally available, but I think a non-metallic paint would look best with white. Furthermore, I think a light shade of color would look best with white on such a Hawk as not to offer too much contrast. Perhaps a light shade of orange, pink, blue, lavender, aqua or mint green would look ideal. By the way, what color will the interior be?

Certainly not what you asked for, but I love the Seaside and Glenbrook greens in '56.

I had the pleasure of driving this one onto the show field at the '09 International meet. I got a few looks..!

Black & White are always classy. I do like the yellow and white combo.
But personally I am a "Green " guy....but would never paint a 56 Golden Hawk green??
My 56 Power Hawk will be Dark Metallic Green upon completion.

Brad did a '63 Avanti in a non-original copper sort of color that would look good. He would need to identify the color.

See it here.

One of the nicest color combos on a '56 Golden has to be Sunglow gold / Yellowstone, with the Sungold the 'middle' color. Rare, but absolutley beautiful!

Mike, since you already have a SDC IM show winning 56J with one of the rarest production color combinations, Tangerine/Snowcap White (118 total built), why not have one with the color combination that was a mid-year replacement for it ....Redwood/Snowcap White (56 total built)? That way youíll have a "RED" to go with your Snowcap White ...and as a result own two of the rarest color combo 56J Birds!!!

In over 50 years of looking at 56Jís, Iíve never seen a Redwood/Snowcap White (paint code P5664), but took this (below) pic. of the reverse; Snowcap White/Redwood (paint code P5666) combo to give you some idea of color combination.

Funny you should mention it.... I'm in the process of getting more pics posted to my website. I've been waiting for the right light to show it to it's true beauty.
I'll have some posted in a few days, and will let people know.
By the way, the brown color is a 2011 Honda color 'Ionized Bronze".
Oh, I customized the color with added pearls....
The link to the color is on my blog page(2nd link)

Hi,

One color that I like very much, but which is not a Stude color is the '69 Camaro garnet red. I saw it used on a couple of street rods at a recent car show and couldn't get over how deep the color looked.

Color is a really personal thing, but IF it were I - I wouldn't use metallic paint on a 50's car.

*If* I ever paint another car, I'm going to paint it lavender. I just like that color.

I wouldn't use metallic paint on a 50's car.Generally speaking...true. There are examples of metallics used in the thirties. Paint decisions should be tempered with aesthetic discrimination.
Never say never.

Agree with post 21 and post 22. I bet the snow cap white with that bronze would make a statement. Thanks rockne

I am considering using the first photo's color below the belt line and on the top...with snowcap white as the intermediate color. Will use either color on car for interior leather.

The second photo I am consideing the red shade below the belt line and on the top...with the cream as the intermediate. Will use either color on car for interior leather.

comments on colors and use of either dark or light shade of interior are appreciated.

also considering ionized brone and snowcap white...no photo available.l
