  • Look what I found on my Lark!

I was out taking pictures of the Lark today to have a suite of "before" pix and I noticed something wasn't right on the passenger's side of the engine compartment. Can you spot it?

That's the right-hand exhaust manifold resting on the back of the upper A-Arm. Inspection revealed the culprit:

...collapsed right motor mount allowed the engine to cant over and contact the suspension. In fact, if they hadn't come together just so, the motor would likely have fallen off the mount!

Good thing I'm planning to pull the engine... [xx(]

I'd go ahead and replace it now, can't hurt and it's not that difficult if you have a helper. Basically one person works the engine hoist
(or floor jack, depending on how you raise the engine) and holds the new mount in place, while the other person pulls the engine around as necessary to get the holes to line up. be careful only to hold the mount by its sides!

now as far as that engine has slipped out of place, I would say you need to replace ALL the mounts - the similar one on the driver's side, as well as the one (stick) or two (auto) on the bellhousing.

Thanks Nate. Yeah, I'm going to replace them all. The car is currently not being driven due to a loose flywheel and shot crankshaft thrust bearing (1/4" endplay [V] ) so I'm planning on doing a lot of stuff, including a front end rebuild, while the engine's out. Right now I'm just trying to find a rebuilder who knows Studes somewhere in San Diego or Orange counties...
