  • 55 coupe flipper mechanism

My driver's sidedoor handle actuator has a broken spring and I need a replacement mechanism. Anyone out there happen to have one?
    Thanks,
    John

Hardtops have the flippers. Don't think a coupe does. Studebaker International had replacement springs and other parts for mine.

They are handles but what I bought from SI does not work. I have to rebuild the inside of the mechanism and have it spot welded if I can not find a replacement. It is a President coupe.
      Thanks,

The mechanism is simple metal encasing a shaft and spring. The spring is circular. I will try to find your email so I can send you a picture.
          Thanks,

You just need a remote control 297939 that the inside door handle attaches to. They are the same on most all models and readily available at all Studebaker Vendors.

Could it be that you need to join SDC to get "Turning Wheels" Monthly Publication to know these things? Welcome to the Club!

You definitely need the Chassis Parts Catalog, Body Parts Catalog and Shop Manual.

I have 55 door handles. I bought a pair of later NOS and they worked, too. As Rich points out, there was a TW article on Stude door handles. The only difference I could see is the later ones have a convex line on the handle and the earlier ones were concave. Western Star trucks use the same handles.

                  I don't think so.
