Do R series engine oil pans have more capacity than non R ones? If so why?

The R Series oil pans (that would be a 1963 and 1964 models) have the same capacity as the regular V-8 engines except they have a Windage tray in them. The exception is the R-3 engines which have one more quart capacity. They also have the same Windage tray in them. I hope this answers your question.
