  • Back from the paint shop

Have had this truck since 1995, it was an ugly pea-soup green with big dents here and there and cracked bondo in several spots. Got my pals at the paint shop to do a quick once-over, a 10-foot prep job and some matte black paint.

    I like it.

Looks good and I see you use the same wheels I have had on my Champ for 11 years now....they work and look good.

I like it to, as I'm a fan of the Matte Black finish.

I'll be interested, if you take it to shows, to see if you will want to change the color. If you look in my signature you will see the 54K has a matte black/silver scheme and that gets lost in the crowd. Someday it will get a coat of gloss Boyd Red to replace the matte finish.

          For a pure driver, I'd leave the 54 black/silver.

In any case, I love matte black and your truck.

          Bob

Cool - mine came off a late 90s Suburban.

The truck has some mods - updated instrument panel, 4 wheel Turner disc brakes, 700R4 trans and a 9 inch Ford rear end. Kind of fun, but it takes 2 men and a boy to park it even with the big steering wheel.

Know what you mean about parking .....wish someone would come up with a simple power steering unit for those old straight axle trucks !

I seem to recall this being done - didn't Dave Lester put power steering into a Transtar a few years back?

Don't know - I just told him to paint it matte black. I'll ask him tomorrow.

The fellow I bought the truck from installed a GM power steering unit, but the truck already had a GM steering column.
