  • 58 Packard wagon surfaces again on 'Hooniverse'

We've seen this car before. As impressive as ever! Just found the site via the Station Wagon forum:

    Why would anyone want that?

I really love seeing these. There was a green one driving around Athens Ohio when I was there in the 70s. Is there a registry for these?

If this one had the correct interior, it would be worth the price he is asking for it.
This one came out of an old barn in NY. Peter did an outstanding job with the exterior.
He sold the car to someone in CA about 2 years ago and it keeps coming up for sale.

Geeze, I lost that winning lotter ticket again. Where is that thing when I really "need" it? That Packard wagon is gorgeous.

Every time one of these shows up, I have to sigh a bit. Matthew's recent pics of my old Pack wagon are disheartening to look at. It didn't look ANYthing like that when it was towed from my driveway in 1981. I really thought I had a gem when I owned and drove it in the late 70s. Of course - at that time, these PackardBakers - all body styles - were held in LOW regard by SDCers in general (even the '58 Stude sedans were smirked at back then).
Shy of me finding a winning lottery ticket blowing down the street, I'll never own another. It's amusing that while even TODAY they're phoo-poohed as ridiculous - folks are wowed when they see one. In this age of anonymous soap bars, it's a real slap in the face to realize that we once drove around in what are not regarded as works of art.
No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

The answer to that is yes and no. One of the Packard Clubs says they do, but any attempts by me to reach them so that I might see it and/or add my '58 sedan have gone un-answered. I really wanted to find out what they have so that I might add it to my back burner project Registry of '56-'58 Studes and '57 & '58 Packards.

There is a non-Packard Club site ( http://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/article/ ) that has a registry of sorts, but I know there are more out there then what they have.

I personally think that the Stude version outshines the Packard. The nose is a bit much for my taste.

                    Hi Dave,

The roster keeper for '57 and '58 Packards at the Packard Club is:

                    Hal Hermann (hal.hermann@verizon.net)

                    Hope this helps.

Thanks. I'll have to check to be sure,
but if that's the guy listed on the PAC website-
odds are that's who I tried already.

Now to try and figure out how long ago that was...

I keep a registry just on the 58 Packard Station Wagons. If you hear of any, please let me know. Most individuals are willing to share, but do not want me posting anything. I do keep the info confidential if asked to do so. Of the 159, I know of a little over 20.

Nice looking wagon. I can see myself pulling up to a job to do an inspection in that baby.

He's the guy. Here's the response:

All Roster Keepers are encouraged to answer questions about the Packards in the Rosters that they maintain and to exchange data with members of the Packard Club and others as they see fit.

I'm sure that Mr. Hermann would welcome the data on your Packard and be willing to answer any questions that you might have.

                              Sincerely,

Wondering what my spouse would do if I were to covertly replace her beemer X3 with a '58 Packard Wagon that needs a little...uh...er....work.
