Today's project was to finish de-leakifying my '55 coupe... replaced half the door w'strip on each side (all but the vertical piece at the rear,) however, leak on pass. side remains. Removing the inside windshield trim confirmed my fears, it's the windshield gasket. I've already narrowed the last little leak into the trunk to the rear window gasket. Both are old and hardened; I'm tempted to just bite the bullet and do both rather than try to patch it up with the "squirt in the channel" stuff.

I know that you're supposed to use some kind of non-hardening goo in the glass channel of the w'strip, and I think the FSM recommends a layer of dum-dum on the body lip, but are there any products introduced in the last 50 years that would make for more reliable sealing? v (and preferably an easier job of post-install cleanup?

thanks,

nate

Oh, yeah, any tips on the rear window other than "don't do it" or "sacrifice several small woodland creatures to the deity of your choice?"
