I've seen that one, Jeff, and have wondered where it might have been "run." At 2 1/2 minutes, it would have been terribly expensive for a television ad, even in 1956. Might it have run in movie theaters as a "short?" (Don't know; just asking).
Yep; the flight-themed instrument cluster was touted in many quarters for 1956.
That's probably not a Mocha and Doeskin President Classic front and center, but it sure looks good in whatever combination it was. Possible white with yellow roof and side inserts.
'Too bad the 1956 Ford Fairlane and Chevrolet Bel-Air 4-door sedans (514,470 combined) outsold the President Classic sedan (8,507) by more than 60:1. Gulp:
1956 Ford Fairlane Town Sedan: 244,672
1956 Chevrolet Bel-Air 4-door sedan: 269,798
1956 Studebaker President Classic: 008,507
Yipes! BPWe've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.

That particular ad was run in theatres . I think it was the Tom Bosley ad
that was run on television . I think this particular ad "Craftesmanship with
a Flair" , was one of the best ads that Studebaker's Advertising Agency
came up with . The President Classic looks very elegant and the Golden
Hawk very Sporty .
Production in 1956
Studebaker Hawks 19,165
Ford Thunderbird 15,631
Chevrolet Corvette 3,388
See BOB , its all good . Is the glass half empty or half full .

I had an Uncle who was stationed in Korea when he first saw a magazine ad for the new 1956 Studebakers. I am sure he was a little home sick because he always said that was the best looking thing he had seen in a long time and it almost brought tears to his eyes... tears could have also been caused by the cold winds blowing in from Siberia as well...

Why do announcers of that period always sound the same- and why don't they sound like that anymore??Proud NON-CASO

That is quite a feat when you consider that Ford and Chevrolet combined might have had ten times as many dealers as Studebaker in 1956! BP

With the distinct problem that Studebaker didn't have the financial ability
to put much money into the 1956 Sedan Line Restyle , Vince Gardner did
achieve miracles on a miniscule budget . The President Classic in my
opinion is a very stylish car considering that he had the 1955 Line to work
over . I just wish the whole Sedan Line was a bit wider .
The only other restyle which was a real miracle by comparison was the
work done by Brooks Stevens to turn the 1963's into the 1964's .
The 1956 Hawk Line was of course the last work at that time by the Lowey
Organisation under the hand of Bob Bourke .
I feel that in 1956 in particular , the two separate Lines Compliment each
other very well . But up against the comparable Ford and Chevy , it was
tough . Studebaker really needed a Hardtop in the Sedan Line which they
didn't bring to market until 1958 which was a real shame .

'Probably the most remarkable statistic I've read about the domestic 1956 model year is this:
For most of the year, Chevrolet Division alone, by itself, had 25% of the market!
Geeze, the entirety of General Motors barely gets that today. My, how times change. BPWe've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.

I really like the looks of the 56 President 4 door sedan. If I ever got another Studebaker, that would probably be the one. I love the two tone color schemes and the interiors are most excellent.Jon Stalnaker
