It would appear that Studebaker was competing pretty well on price in Australia and New Zealand against other U.S. makes, except Valiant.
Very interesting stuff Richard, keep them coming!StudeRich

Thanks once again for all your time and trouble , Richard , to bring this information to light .
In the segment headed "TOOLING" , it says that total LARK tooling expenditure for the 1964
model line is in total now $900,000 . Am I right in my interpretation of the info as presented ?
Also in respect to "TOOLING" , for the AVANTI an extra $50,000 was added for 1964 , which
brought total tooling to $950,000 as against $6.7 million . Are we to assume that they are
comparing the cost for 'fibreglass' as against what it would have been if they had to tool
to produce Avanti's in metal ? For both the Lark and Avanti , by Industry standards , it would
appear that the Major tooling costs were kept on a very tight budget . I have always thought
that the '64 Line styled by Brooks Stevens was one of the best examples of creating a new
car that hid the fact that the inner shell remained based on what was used in 1963 .
Under the Heading "International " , Studebaker management predicted sales of Studebaker
in Australia at 1,600 vehicles for 1963 , 400 over what was achieved in 1962 .
The 'actual' sales figures were :-
1962 :- 1,188
1963 :- 1,414
1964 :- 974
1965 :- 591
1966 :- 607
It turned out that 1963 was Studebaker's top sales year in Australia . And whilst Management
was said to be considering to bring the 6 cylinder motor to Australia , It never eventuated .
The cars sold here were all V8's , apart from a few test units . Not that it is relevant to Mr
Quinn's current 'thread' , Australia did not get any true 1966 Studebakers . Every car sold
here after mid 1965 were McKinnon V8 283's all in the 1965 styling .
One final thought , wondering what the 'Tooling' would have been for the 1964 GT Hawk .
Bet that it ended up being about $50,000 like the Avanti .
All these guys achieved miracles for 1964 on a shoestring budget .

INTERNATIONAL. 2. Australia.
Perhaps we did not take the South Bend suggestion of 6 cyl models as no 1963's were brought in for evaluation. We did bring in one 1964 Commander four door for evaluation but public support was not strong enough to import CKD units. That lone vehicle still survives today in the state of Queensland.

GULP:
SALES
1. Dealer Count
As of this morning:
Total 2,060
Approved 4
Terminated 9
We are continuing our review and termination of non-producing dealers and will probably put another 75 or 80 out.
Bottom Line: According to "all the above," they could wind up with fewer than 2,000 dealers! Ugh.
Thanks again, Dick. Great stuff. BP

"Model X" was probably the virtually all-new 1965 "regular" line (F/W/J/L/P body replacement) that was to have an all-new chassis with coil-spring rear suspension. I've seen the rear suspension blueprints, so it was well underway.
That's my conjecture, though; it could have been something else, too. BPWe've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.
