  • Deep-N-Hock Follies - Aug 2011

    Around midnight last night...
(best time to work in the shop this summer)
Only one more pipe on each side to fab up...
Then they come out for welding...

Looks like things are coming right along. I don't know about that mid-night stuff. I am often up at that time, but around here it has still been hot that late. A couple days ago at 10:00 pm it was still in the mid-90's! I have now got an air conditioner in the shop and life is much better now.
(And no I am not going to look at my electricity bill! )

I have a/c in the plans, but have to tough it out for the summer ($$$ )..
Besides, the best time to buy A/C is in the winter
(yeah...keep telling yourself that, Jeff....uh huh...)
Need insulation, too.... Need carb, fuel pump, and pressure regulator, too...
      Priorities....priorities..
      (I guess I need a sponsor most)

Picked up the freshly machined block yesterday....
Set it on the moving dolly on the floor, pulled back the bag to take a few pic's.
        Closed the bag....and left town
I want to play sooooo bad..

My wife accuses me of going out to the garage to 'rub' myself against the Stude. The other day while she was shopping, and both my daughters were at work, I needed a hand attaching a remote clutch m/cylinder to the inner fender well of my car. I was using two through bolts and needed someone to start the nuts on the tire-side of the fenderwell. With nobody to help, I tried doing it myself, so there I was, one arm holding the bracket and bolts on one side, the other arm wrapped around the fender trying to start the nut, and my face firmly mashed onto the top of the fender...then this lady walking her dog comes into the garage to retreive her non-responding pooch who decided to come and investigate the situation. The lady spots me, gets a little embarresed because she (I think) thought no one was in the garage. I do my best to say good morning, but sound like a drunk with my face pasted to the fender....awkward, but funny. (she shoulda taken a photo)

regarding the machined block....very nice. those look like splayed 4 bolt main caps...are they? sorry, my work-provided lap-top will not allow me onto the racing studebakers site...something about severe security threat that I cannot overide. Cheers, Junior.

Yes, they are. Ken Evans made up several sets a few years ago..
ARP studs on the big holes and ARP bolts on the splayed holes.

Got up real early this morning to take advantage of the cool morning...
Did a little upgrade to the oldest (and best'est) of my engine stands)..
Dumped a BBC once rolling it around a long time ago.
That is not going to happen with the Stude engine for the 'Black Car'..

Uh oh... My scrap aluminum pile is getting bigger....
Pretty soon I'll have enough saved up to cast a real Stude intake manifold

I could help the casting process by donating some
3104-H19 or 3004-H19 aluminum cans lying around.
