Simple question, so a bit embarassed...Are there any gaskets, spacers, etc., for mounting the exterior door handles? Is it simply metal to metal?
    Thanks

    No and yes.

No gaskets. The handles hook into the door at the front and butt flush at the back with a screw holding them down through the back edge.

I cut out pieces from Inner tube rubber with scissors. It looks more finished, but it's not Original.

Does this mean it's getting closer?

You need to ask Art Unger about the molded gaskets used on the Western Star trucks that used the Studebaker like exterior handle.

                Hey Pat,
How is the Conestoga Project going?

Cool article about those handles in TW. I bought some NOS handles and although they were the later ones, they fit directly on to my 55 Commander. Originals had a concave grip, new ones are convex...but shiny and smooth action.

That's good news Bob, looking forward to seeing you drive it! The Conestoga project is patiently waiting for my retirement at the end of this year. It is being guarded by a small platoon of spiders. They must be Corp of Engineers, SeaBees or Redhorse spiders because they restore their webs as fast as I sweep them away!
