  • 1948 commander 4 dr

have a completely restored commander which i bought from a 90 year old friend who's husband had passed away. - replaced carb, fuel pump and various other things. it rides a little rough and my mechanic says that i should put new oval tires on it but because it has skirts on it i am afraid that i might do some damage also i have been checking around for shock absorbers which seem to be a different type on this model but it feels like it needs them.
    can anyone give me direction.

Your shocks are probably rebuildable, go back to the home page, find the vendors and start asking around.

      Congrats on your 48
The shocks on the pre-51 cars are Houdaille rotary shocks and are adjustable. There should be an adjusting screw (the one with the lock nut around it) as well as a fill plug (usually square headed).
      Slight adjustments make large changes.
