  • Deep-N-Hock Follies - July 2011

Well... The Black Car now has Stude iron in it...

Pat Skelly came over and we bolted a dummy block to the new mid plate and bolted the trans to the mid plate.

Used the cherry picker to put it in from underneath while up on the 4 post lift.

    Just hangin' around...

Still have to mess around getting to set where I want it, and build the mounts...
But it sure feels good to see some Stude iron in there...
Both of us were filthy dirty sweaty Stude guys...But happy Stude guys!
Pat Skelly sure has been a superb friend.. He has really helped pitch in....
    Thanks Pat!

(Putting the Stude back in a Stude....continued...)

Built a new rear trans mount crossmember and installed it.

Made up some new 'bosses' to weld the new mount plates to....

Cut some cardboard templates for the new mounts.

Add a couple of angle pieces welded to the frame...
      Cut some steel..
      Drill some holes...
Should be done with the mounts this weekend..
Off to work, I go.... (have to pay for this somehow)

(Putting a Stude back in a Stude part 299)

Machined up and ground some loose scrap metal laying around the shop and made up the front mounts for the Stude block.

Sure looks a lot better with Stude iron in there

Jeff, I realize that the goal is to make a drag car as light weight as possible. But don't you think taking out the crank and pistons is a bit extreme?

Better stop while you're ahead. Racing that car will only devalue it.

Okay, seriously. Your work looks great.

Jeff is that mid plate engine turned aluminum or steel ? Who did the turning on it? If it is aluminum, will it be bolted to the frame also? That is a solid tranny mount, right? Nice cross member too.

The mid plate is aluminum. Yes, it is also bolted to the frame.
Rear crossmember now has a 5/8" spacer in it to keep everything aligned properly (D/S angle and crank centerline angle)....
Did the engine turning late one night at the suggestion from Dave Bloomberg,
Did it on the milling machine with 3M gasket remover disc's...
              500rpm... Turn, crank 8 turns, drop & turn...Rinse Reapeat...One beer per row.
