  • Studebaker Constable?

Did Studebaker have it's own constable?

  • #2
Well, this post has been up for only an hour, so Monomaniac and StudebakerWheel haven't seen it yet, and they are the authorities. But, I have a feeling this has nothing to do with our Studebaker car company. Probably a geographic location named Studebaker. And even at that, it doesn't look very legal.

Mr. Quinn will know but I seem to remember that he did an Almanac a few years ago that showed Studebaker Corp. "Police"
and they certainly "may" have had a badge.

There is also an attractive " Studebaker Sheriff" badge dated 1928 & I am confident Dick will fill us Forum members in on the details of both varieties at the end of the auction if not before.

I seem to recall an article written by Mr. Quinn about Studebaker having its own security force which were uniformed and had company issued ID.

Dick did write an article in his Almanac column maybe 3 years ago re the Studebaker Corporation Plant Security force they employed. Their uniforms were complimented with a matching numbered badge on the hat & shirt pocket. I do have an original hat with its badge #494. It is titled Plant Protection - Studebaker.

Studebaker had a division for "Plant Protection", their job was just that, to keep the plant protected. This included a fire department, and security/police. I have seen photos of Studebaker guards wearing badges just like that, they had to have a constible.

I think it's only fitting for the SDC to pony up and get this for the Forum Constable.
