View Full Version : Handy tool

Here's a handy tool I made when I built my engine back about 2000.
It's for installing the vibration damper. They say not to tap it on with a hammer, and the bolt is often not long enough to reach the threads in the crankshaft snout.
I cut the head off a spare bolt and drilled and tapped it in my lath to fit a 1/2 fine thread bolt. I put the cutoff bolt in a very lite hand tight, then I can use a long bolt to start the damper on and and change to a shorter one as it goes on. Then remove both and use the stock bolt to finish.

Got to admire that ability to solve a problem without going and buying expensive possible one-time tools.

Good idea, I think I'll steal it! I may substitute a threaded rod and nut for the 1/2-20 bolt, eliminating the need to use more than one bolt. Thanks.
