Well Jim, here's a little present for you. An original factory brochure. It has a tear on the front of it, but otherwise its in pretty good shape. I don't know if you've got one already, but it was in a pile of stuff I found:
Send me your snail mail address and I'll send it to you.sals54

Other sources bay there were 45 built in 65.
Avanti was produced, from 1962 until 1991, except in 1986. The first Avantis, manufactured by Studebaker, were 1963 models.
But the AOAI roster has just one listed...RQA-004.
Either the model has the worst survival rate on record,
or they weren't really made,
or they were labeled as 66s.
Anyone know more?Last edited by JBOYLE; 03-08-2011, 08:33 AM.63 Avanti R1 2788

Last I heard Dan Booth had RQA001. It had been damaged in a fire before he obtained it and is supposed to get restored if not already in the process...at least the last I heard of it.
In an interview Arnold Altman said the first four Avanti II's were assembled at the same time. Did all of these get registered as 1965 cars or were they titled at 1966 depending on when they were sold? The same question goes for any 1965 completed cars...when were they actually sold and how were they titled?
Is there any definitive information as to how Avanti Motors ran their model year...the same as the calendar year (January-December) or the commonly used September through August the car industry uses? Or did Avanti Motors use one then shift to the other for accounting purposes?
Actual production numbers can be pretty sketchy...some serial numbers were assigned but never built, some gaps in serial numbers exist, cars actually produced vs. actually sold during a model year, cars whose construction was started in one model year and completed in the next, etc. That really complicates coming up with accurate numbers, even for a company as small as Avanti Motors.Poet...Mystic...Soldier of Fortune. As always...self-absorbed, adversarial, cocky and in general a malcontent.

My '66 was sold by Nate Altman in 1972 to the person before my ownership. Don't know if it was a trade in or what, but the title was in Avanti Motors' name.Jim
