Driving the other day, the trans was shifting down from direct to 2nd (25 MPH) just as I started accelerating. There was an audible "clank" and thereafter it won't shift up to direct. Everything else works the way it should. Any help on figuring out what to look for would be helpful. The shop manual for the trans says a governor problem is the most likely problem.
