  • 1941 to 46 Studebaker Champion article

I recieved my April issue of "Collectible Automobile" today (April issue recieved on 2nd March!!!!) and immediatly went to the article listed on the cover about 41 to 46 Champions. It was ably penned by our own in-house bard, Richard Quinn. the article runs to 14 pages and covers everything from the development costs to the available colors on the production run.

I don't own a Champion but by the end of the article I wanted one.

Kudos to Mr. Quinn for a fine effort.

Appreciate the notoriety! For what it might be worth I did a similar article on the 1939-40 Champions for the June 1996 issue of Collectible Automobile and one on the 1955 Speedster for the October 1998 issue. I do not believe either of these are available from the publisher but they do turn up occassionally on Ebay. Here is a complete list of those i have done:

Sorry but that would not be possible (at least for me). Once I agree to do an article I have to sign a contract that gives away the rights of all the material to Publications International, the parent organization that publishes Collectible Automobile. A few other people have ask the same question. Maybe someday they may do it, though I wouldn't count on it. Incidentally the other question that is frequently ask is whether I choose the topics. The answer is no, they contact me with a specific request.

Richard, I'm a charter subscriber to CA. The 1998 article on the Speedster has pictures of my car when it was owned by Bob Johannson in Maryland. I purchased it from him just as the magizine was coming out. It's a great magazine with quality authors.

Finally got a copy today. It took three trips to Barnes and Noble. It reaches subscribers long before the news stand. Great article, of course.

Thanks. This article was somewhat more rewarding than most since they photographed two of my cars for inclusion. The '41 black coupe and the Coupe Delivery. For all my articles I supply them with most all of the black and white original photos plus a few of the color and they have contract photographers around the country that they will send out to get additional photos. That was the case with the black '42 Champion 4-door sedan they used. I recently sold that car to Malcolm Stinson in AZ and they photographed it down there.
