  • fitting ignition wires through loom

I am installing new ignition wires for my conversion to Dave Thibault's electronic ignition. Newer (compatible with electronic ignition) wires are thicker, and all 6 won't fit through the curved wire loom leading to the distributor. I get 5 in, and no amount of pulling, lubing, spraying outside with teflon spray, etc. will get the 6th wire through. Any way to expand or open this loom?

I may have to abandon it and use some conventional wire guides, but I like the looks of the original loom.

    Any ideas?

I have a set of solid wire core spark plug wires (stock size) on my Champion with the Pertronix that I got at NAPA. Work fine if you don't have a radio.

Sounds like you got 8mm wires. 7mm will work in the looms. I run both Pertronix and the MoPar system using regular wires- no problems.
I got a set of 8mm when I was having problems with my '64 Avanti on our Route 66 trip. They solved the problem, buy I had to leave off all the shielding as the wires wouldn't fit the grooves in the Avanti looming.
