  • 1964 Daytona...Part 10....What is the VIN #?

Just a question, since I have not had this particular
opportunity to do this before. My "new" 1964 Daytona
has left Georgia and is headed West. Since Georgia is
one of places that doesn't issue titles, for older type
vehicles, unless under certain conditions, I will be
getting a "bill of sale" from Wayne, the previous owner.
Course once it gets into the "Zone", I will need to get
her inspected and naturally we will get a new title,
from the "Zonian" MVD, as they title everything.[}]

Ok, here is the question[?] what do I or the "Zonian"
inspector use as a the VIN? The plate (serial#)on the
driver side pillar or is there a embossed # on the engine
block somewhere, as was in "Charlene's" case and Mr.
Biggs helped me out on that issue. I remember seeing a
"thread" contribution by "Studegary" from June 2005, on
this subject, and stated that most "late model" Studebaker's
used the serial # plate for the VIN. So am I assuming that
we could proceed that way, since we are starting out fresh[?]

    Thanks in advance [8D]

Glen, at this point in time, most, if not all states will use the serial number as the VIN. If you know the serial number already, I'd order the Production Order from the museum. This will back up the numbers on the car. It will also insure that if there are any '1' numbers in the serial number, that it will end up as a '1' and not an 'I'. I would also go to the Georgia state DMV showing the law about 'bill of sale' issues.

    Good luck!

The number on the door pillar.

        Miscreant adrift in
        the BerStuda Triangle

        1958 Provincial wagon

No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

Thank you both....I've asked the previous owner for
the Serial #, but haven't got a response yet. I have
already printed the GA Dept of Safety, Motor Div.
page on their title laws, to take with me.

            Thanks again!!!!

Wayne might still have the PA. title I gave him when he bought the car, but Bill of sale from Ga., is all you need.

Glen you may want to get that PA title if posible. I don't know about your county but here in Maricopa county they are tough. One of my friends recently purchased a Chrysler in Texas. Texas uses motor numbers. MDV would not accept it. He ended up with a title company in Alabama. My cousin also had a problem on a 32 Ford with a clean Colorado title.

Thanks Denny, I have already spoken with the Private MDV,
that I have used in the past, in Prescott, and have told
them what is up, they don't forsee a probem, well at least
yet. I am taking all the above responses as well, plus the
GA law on titles, as further ammunition. They are a title
company also. Even though they charge extra, they do provide
the service that the regular MDV offices seem to lack at times.
I think the saving grace, is that since there is no title, from
GA., because of their laws, it will be like starting out fresh.

I will contact the seller again and see if he still has the PA
title. By the way, anymore dust storms down your way????

                            Thanks again,
