  • Missing Hood Ornament for My '53

In order to maintain appearance of custom work done on my Commander 50+ years ago I need some help. The hood ornament was lost during original restoration work. That is another story. The ornament was not the '53 Studebaker strat-o-style. It was either bird shaped or plane shaped. The 4-hole pattern is shaped like a cross with the lengthwise distance 10" and widthwise distance 7". I am hoping it is a Studebaker ornament, possibly post-'53. Thanks for your help!

There was this thread concerning 1953's last month,
there are 2 differnt pictures, so you will need to
scroll down to see the ad 1st and then the car.

Hope this gives you a clue that what you had was another
    year.

A while back, there was a '53 on eBay with an off brand hood ornament that was sort of like a plane. It was fairly large for the car and I believe it came from an Oldsmobile. Is your car that eBay car? Do you have a picture of the hood ornament or could you at least make a drawing of what you remember it looking like and the approximate size. The distances that you mention seem to be too large for a Lark bird ornament, but I don't have one here to measure. Of course, if it was put on the car 50+ years ago it couldn't be a Lark ornament. Oldsmobile is my best guess with the information provided. What engine did the car have 50+ years ago? Often, something like a hood ornament was an indicator of the engine transplant in customs of the '50s.

Weld up the holes and paint it. They look better without hood ornaments. Also a lot of them didn't come with any.

As soon as you find a product you like they will stop making it.

I much prefer them without the ornament.
