Here's a project I started a few years ago and recently resurrected. It's a Maisto 1/18 scale 53 Stude modified to be a short-wheelbase sports car prototype. It follows the general guidelines of those built for real in the past: it's an in-scale 16+ inches shorter and will eventally have an additional rake to the windshield of 10 to 16 degrees. The roof has been modified to be shorter and to be removable. I also modified the door cutouts to better mimic the body line curve and to make the car sportier looking. It would be nice if it could actually serve as a prototype for a real one - I'll keep my fingers crossed (and finish my other projects first!). I'll have better pictures when the model is finished.

The windshield isn't glued on yet and I don't have a proper piece for the roof to sit on yet, so the car looks extremely chopped. The roof will eventually look more normal and more like the drawing in the book about Robert Bourke's Studebaker designs...Scott Rodgers

Hey - the windshield isn't in it's final raked position yet and the tonneau cover isn't notched for the roof pillars. Patience, patience...Last edited by scott.rodgers; 04-17-2011, 07:50 PM.Scott Rodgers

Scott: AGAIN.....scrap the white roof and go back to the original. Looks much nicer and I think achieves the 'custom - CA' look that you were looking for with the original design. And no, us toy guys are not going to decry your customizing a toy Studebaker. Perhaps it will keep you away from the big ones!!!! HA! stupak

For Scott-Rogers,
I received a note from Maisto Project Manager, "would like to see the finished product" Think twice about that white top. I agree with the others It spoils the rest of the car.. It looks like you copied the top from that Italian made plastic toy of a 'studebaker. Did you?
