LOL. When the mud dries to dust and the corrosion has removed the floor and trunk metal, the clouds of dust inside the car were a source of wonder for us when we were little. Now they would call the authorities and lock our parents up.Dave Warren (Perry Mason by day, Perry Como by night)

That is a 1914 four cylinder model SC. Easily identified by left hand drive(first year) and cowl mounted gas cap(last year). Obviously 6 years old as the licence plate says 1920. The plate also says DC. Was this the state of roads in Washington when you got away from the area around the Capitol and the White House? Buying a gallon of Best motor oil at 80 cents didn't offer any price advantage over buying four quarts at 20 cents each. Lightning motor fuel was 31 cents a gallon and claimed to provide 25-35% more mileage per gallon! Where are they now? The Penn Oil Company (Pennzoil?) didn't put much effort into their service station buildings. The gas pump says the fuel is filtered and I'm not too keen on the light bulb at the top of the stalk on the pump. What is at 1611 M Street NW today?

Just to close the loop, there really isn't anything at 1611 M St, NW any more. The first building on that side of the block is numbered 1615 M St, NW. It is a large commercial office building with a number of tenants, both businesses and Federal agencies. And yeah, M Street is paved.Skip Lackie
