  • A Studebaker with a New Car Smell

Jim McCuan's 10K mile R2 Avanti. I just have to post a picture of the interior of this car. It still has that new car smell.

I was never really an Avanti person until I drove this one. Now an Avanti is definitely on the list.

I love the Avanti's instrument panel, w/o the paper woodgrain added later.

Jim drives the car, it had just over 5K when it was pulled out of storage a couple of years ago.

I want to drive the thing across the country.

Those are some pretty unusual wheels on that car, you don't see those everyday!

I'll reserve my opinion of them for now, haven't decided yet if I like them or not, but they ARE different.

I think I am a "MAG" type guy, if they don't have 5 spoke Mag type wheels (like Cragar), I would rather have stock wheelcovers than anything else !

But that Avanti on the other hand, is to die for! VERY nice.

I remember when that car came on the market. Great car, and a more than fair price. I thought about it myself, but Jim grabbed it quick. She's in good hands.

Wasn't it sold to Jim to help finance a salt racer? I could be wrong on that.

I really like the idle of that thing. Great, loud sound.

It sounds even better at full throttle while manually shifting the Powershift. My ears are still ringing.

Matthew has been riding in Avantis since he was 5. His Grandma would pick him up and take him to kindergarten in her '81. When he was 12, Nollie Hinton and I lifted him through the rear side window because I locked the keys inside at the So.E.Zone meet in Memphis. NT

I do recall him mentioning on the Forum that his Grandmother had one, but I don't recall him being particularly impressed by them until now.
By his own admission..."I was never really an Avanti person until I drove this one."
That was the context of my post.
Well done, Matt, we'll make a convert of you yet.
