View Full Version : V/8 Rocker arm question!

I used the search function with out any luck. The 62 289 with head casting #1555294 in my daughters cruiser is running rockers #1550613. Are these the correct ones? I read that there was a change in the later V/8 rockers & push rod lengths. I have a set of 536196 rockers in hand with a set of push rods that are aprox. 11 3/16 long. They came out of a 1960 V/8. Which one are correct ?

I tried to delete this post because it should have been over in the tech talk.

Gordon: The change was made during the 1961 model year, so 1960 rockers and pushrods cannot be interchanged with 1962 parts.

That said, I can find no reference to Part Numbers 1550613 or 536196 in the 1959-1964 Chassis Parts Book. The 11 3/16" length is correct for the earlier pushrods. BP

IIRC, the rockers and pushrods can be interchanged as an assembly, as long as the two parts are kept together. That is, early pushrods and rocker sets on late heads and vice versa. It is only early pushrods/late rockers or late pushrods/early rockers which cannot be mixed. Which head is used doesn't matter. Correct?

Thanks guys,
I haven't had this engine very long. I bought it back in about March out of a 61 Hawk that came from Texas. The engine # P85722 comes up as a 62. I put a Fairborn cam & lifters in before I dropped it in my daughters Cruiser. I adjusted the valves today and wanted to see if things were ok while the valve covers were off. The numbers that I posted are casted in the rockers themselves. They must be different than the part numbers.
Just tuning things for the weekend. The last race of the year is Sunday. My daughter is currently 6th in points for the season driving her Cruiser.
