How rare is that "Commando V8" emblem on the grill? I suppose only the South Africa assembled cars might have had them; never heard of it otherwise. Does it have overdrive? Where they placed controls on RHC cars is sometimes different from LHC, It looks like the overdrive handle is there...

Didn't Plymouth use a similar Commando V8 logo on some of its models of the mid 60's?

The UK person with ebay ad calls it a 3875 cc engine .... actually size for GM 283 V8 is 4638 cc or rounded to liters a 4.6L V8

I had heard of the Chrysler Commando engine, and the Jeep Commando, but figured this to be some funky overseas Studebaker thing, like the U.S. of America on the Serial# plate. About the 3,875 cc, that is about 237 CID, and maybe came from thinking of the 273 CID Mopar V8 but transposing digits.

Interesting, I always thought MoPar's "Commando" signified a big block engine.
