    No! not that type! keep it clean you guys!
    I'm restoring a late R3 Avanti and it's my understanding that they used prestolite electronic ignition.
    Many parts are missing on this car, including that. My question is where did they mount the heat-sink?
    Also I understand the used a 14" fan. is that correct? and where do I get one of those?

    Check with Jon Myer, Myer's Studebaker, 740-674-4897. He's pretty much the "R" engines expert- has several R-3s himself.

        The heat sink is mounted in front of the left front hinge mount panel forward of the battery. The harness passes through that panel, placing the heat sink in cool air beside and forward of the radiator. The harness then runs back along the upper left fender apron and then follows the main harness from the starter solenoid to the distributor. I may have a picture of the harness placement on R5642, but I would have to scan it to my computer. I don't think the picture would give you any more information.

        After examining the photos, the harness, moving to the rear, leaves the main harness at the rear of the left hood latch and passes behind the latch across to the distributor at the top edge of the forward firewall.

          Thanks, That helps a bunch. I now know not to fix those holes! I'm going to try and get th body seperated from the frame tomorrow....if I don't get sidetracked.

            We have always lifted the bodies with a sling system engaging the body at the 4 wheel well tops or arches. The front needs to be raised to clear the stud in each foot well, then the rear slightly to allow the body to move rearward enough to clear the rear cross-member. The sling can be replaced with 4 strong people, one at each wheel well lifting up, and taking care not to pull outward as they lift. Good luck!

              Thanks, the shop has 3 twin post lifts so I think it will be ok in that regards. I made a trolly cart that supports the body at the front stud mounts and the rear rests on the top inside wheel wells and the rear support of the gas tank brackets.
              I'm going to try and lift on the hog troughs.....any problems been encountered lifting there?

                No, shouldn't be a problem. We support the body shell by the hog troughs resting on a castered dolly. While replacing the hog troughs with the one piece traditional type, I supported the body shell by the front stud mounts and rear gas tank support brackets. The body shell is really quite rigid without the troughs.

                  Well, it's off. I have it supported by the hog troughs on the lift. Taking the weekend off and goin' to Savanna with grand daughter. It was 104 today I need the ocean to cool off!
                  Someone undercoated over dirt and it is not the best job. So it's out with the heat gun and putty knife......oboy what fun!
