  • Odd serial number, '50 Champion

This old Cal. reg and the title for a '50 Champion are currently on ebay. I think I decoded the Calif. DMV shorthand in the 'Body Type Model' box to read Convertible Coupe, Regal Deluxe, Champion. But that serial number is neither a Studebaker engine or serial number. I'll call it a misprint unless you have a better idea.

I would call it a Calif. assigned Engine Number, or some random Engine Serial Number from a replacement Engine that WAS in the car, as prior to 1955, Calif. used Engine Numbers for VIN's.

If the number was DMV/Calif. Highway Patrol Issued, it normally started with "Cal"
