Yep, that one's got BP all over it, and I don't mean British Petroleum!

Even has a proper BATTERY HOLD DOWN!

Maybe it COULD be picked up at the Can Am Zone Meet: Sept. 10-12 2010 in Bellingham, WA !

Bob always finds something wrong with the cars suggested here on the forum but he may be stuck this time. What could possibly be wrong? Probably has to be a South Bend produced car for him to bite.

I'm sure he will be interested, however I don't know if he'll see it since he's in Glendale. Luckily there's 9 days left and it's listed with too high an opening bid, so there's time.

Hope this one pans out for you, buddy!

                Just thinking out loud.
What are the thoughts on pulling a vintage camper (3,000# w/elec. brks.)) with a wagon like this one. It has the h.p., brakes, and a standard trans. and a stout frame. It would probably need 1,000# rear overload springs. What say you????

I guess it's all about the TONGUE WEIGHT, but I would think a Wagonaire could handle it, their very heavy weight and low center of gravity (X Frame) helps.

To keep the rear level or close to it, you would want the overload aftermarket helper springs set on the "Heavy" position for 1200 LBS. or better yet Air Shocks or a Levelizer Hitch.

I know it is done, but I personally would never feel safe pulling anything with one. You say 'stout frame', but to me they're just the opposite. I compared a bare, rolling Lark frame to a 65 Chevelle in same trim and was shocked at how much weaker it was.

That hat-shaped channel with thin plate spot-welded bottom tacked on the bottom seems pretty low-grade and flimsy to me.

Apparently you have never seen an 11 Gauge, X-Membered Convertible, Wagonaire or Avanti FRAME!

I don't know, my grandfather had a 61 Lark IV 4 door in 1969 and might I say this was in Conn. (salty roads) and he towed the thing to Colorado and back with a car full and a small camping trailor. He only sold it because it had a cracked head I think. I don't know, it could have been suspension problems, but it towed a trailor 2,000 miles or more. Sorry pics are in Conn.

That is what I think could be wrong with this for Bob. His Cruiser has a blue interior (saw it this weekend) - I assume that blue would be his choice for a Wagonaire (but I can't remember what color the convertible was that he bought).

I have. I also saw a 1961 28' camper trailer pulled bu a bumper hitch on a 73 Merc. Also saw Lucy and Desi in "The Long, Long Trailer", towing a huge trailer with a 54 Merc. That's how they did it back then. Certainly doesn't make it right- or safe.

It's always great to defend the cars we love. But it's also best to be realistic. I picture those chintzy rails (I've seen and owned several) and the tapered axles that folks say snap off with NO load; then picture a trailer hanging on the back, family inside, heading out on a trip in that. Not MY family.

I'll love my Studes for the neat old cars they are, and leave the hauling to safer, more capable modern stuff

Well I once pulled a car trailer with a Ford Escort chained to it,with a 65 Cruiser "283" and it was ok.but I went slow,no hurrying and made the haul safe.and oh ya I put the Escort on backwards to balance the ride better, cause we're talking car springs here! and one more oh ya,this Cruiser was not completly rustfree either.
