  • Saturday Follies.....

    So....
Pat Skelly and I got to my local 1/8th mile track for the first time...
(Last time I ran the car was at the Charlotte SDC IM in 2005)
I register and introduce myself to the track owners and management...
Then I pull into the pits.
Just decided to walk across and introduce myself to some local racers.
Say hi to a yellow Mustang guy first.
    No reason why him first....
So we chatted a bit and he talks 5.0's and Ii talk Stude's....
He laughs and opens his hood....

    It's karma, I tell you....
    5 lbs boost blowing into a bone stock 302, T5 5speed...
    He just stuffed a used 8.8" 3.55...
Just shifted to 4th as he crossed the finish line.
Ran Studebaker quick... Real nice surprise...

Then I made a couple runs.
    10.24 @ 67.26 (.922 RT) and a 10.27 @ 65.50 (.611 RT)
I thought I was lame late on both runs... .
Everyone there said I was leaving great..
Truck nosed over just a tad at the top of 2nd gear on the 2nd run, and that slowed the thing a bit.
I think I had a bit of a fuel delivery problem as the car was surging a little on the way over when it was hot.
I have to move the fuel line where it is laying on the RH cylinder head and soaking up heat.
Had fun at test & tune...
Didn't hurt anything and had a blast.
Someone oiled the track real bad, weather was moving in, and we were hungry, so we ran home early.
    No need to push things...

Yeah, what engine??? Our Avanti ran from 10.26 to 10.6's at the club races when we were in Nashville. LOVE racing !!!!! Karen drove it in one race and forgot to shift it out of low range, she said she "left before that 396 Chevelle, wasn't about to let off, and just forgot to shift". Made this boy real nervous, it was screaming as she went thru the lites, and not gaining anymore speed- - -but - - -she did leave early enough and beat him!!! I did have to mention later to him that she forgot to shift, hee-hee. Good thing it was only an 1/8th, he went steaming by her after the lights, but it was too late. John

Certainly looks like "Run What Yah Brung" ATV's, Ford tractors, Water Trucks. Them folks in Gawgah do love to race.

        Neat writeup indeed.
