  • Cheap Avanti's

Who was it that said. "There is nothing more expensive then a cheap Avanti" I need to learn to listen to that guy.

I was a hour away from being on the way to the airport to the casino in Nevada when I rolled the dice on this car. See you all on Weds.

        Greetings, JDP,

        1. You can't lose money parting it out. Thankfully, that is not your method. The world NEEDS more R2s on the road.
        2. It will also be easy to make a decent profit just cleaning it up and buffing off the rust. Dreams sell easily.
        3. Of course, no one has to tell you to resist the temptation to make it right. Am prepared to postulate no one has ever broken even selling a restored Avanti. (Unless his wife is standing there when he is discussing the transaction.)

        thnx, jv.

            John,

I thought of you when I saw the car listed but after taking a look at the bumpers I just "knew" the hog troughs were gone. However, with the prices for R series motors even the BIN would be worth it with the body panels to boot.

Conshohocken is at the intersection of I-76 and 476 just west of Philly. Autocar trucks were made just down the road from there.

My 64 R2 was worse than that, missing all the R2 Parts except for the right block and engine code, front fender busted apart over the wheel well, and the interior was not as nice as JP's. Paid $3500 for it in 1995.

I hit the BIN based on the knowledge that it may well have hog trough/frame issues. I figured if a used R2 engine without the blower sold for $3700 on ebay last week, I'd be fine if the car can't be saved. BTW, I'm at the casino in Laughlin Nv. the car in in Pa.

I hope it can be saved, not only a R2, but a very late production example.
