  • My current progress on my 50 commander.

Here it is, it is not really in very rough shape. Really it's not bad for a 60 year old car.
I am replacing a rear frame rail.
I had gas tank renew do the tank.
I'm cleaning up the bumper supports in the back.
I have painted the grill surround, and grill.
The fan shroud is getting repainted.
I had a hole fixed in the radiator.
I have the dual intake ready to go with the carbs.

Now before the intake goes on I need to adjust the valves. I have a small miss I am sure is coming from the valves.
I am getting the frame rail installed this week, then the gas tank, and then the radiator.
While the tank is out I am going to cover the underside of the trunk with a quick coat of paint to at least seal it so I can clean it up better it at a later date.

SO far so good! I really just want to get it going for the summer at this point. Next fall I'll be doing more to it.

I'll post picture to this when I figure out the new layout.
Here is a link to my pictures.

Looking good! What kind of paint are you using on the bottom of the trunk? I'd do POR-15 if you haven't made a choice yet; then you won't have to return!

I was thinking of por 15, but I want to repair what little rust is there. So I was just going to squirt it with a coat of Krylon black for now just to seal it the return to it at a later date to do it right with out having a major removal project.

Sounds like a good plan! My only concern with that would be is that type of paint works by evaporation of the chemicals in the paint. When that happens, the paint is porous, and the rust keeps going. I found this out the hard way, and thankfully caught it before it got bad. Another product you could try, and is cheaper than POR, is this: http://www.tcpglobal.com/autobodydep...emno=SEM+69504 I've heard good things about the product, and got some m'self. I have yet to try it personally, but may be worth a try! 8D Good luck!

So I am guessing Por 15 is easy to remove when it comes time to really fix the problem?
I really just want to buy time in fixing the real issues with the car.
I guess I was assuming the Por 15 was a pain to remove or something.

Nope, not that hard to remove later. Go with the POR-15. Your car will thank you

The POR15 will remove easily from any new sheet metal you put in there. Basically, it won't stick anyway.

So does anyone know where I can get por 15 locally in Minneapolis?

I am guessing I just need to buy it on line.

I just found one Welle Auto body.
