The NE Zone meet was great...why?...because the trailer queens stayed home:) (most) and true drivers showed up[^]...even in the rain...that is what this club should be all about....the hell with the weather...I would say a good sixty vehicles showed up:D....the awards dinner was great...and Kathy Rodhouse took first place with her 400 point '63 R-2 Avanti[:p][:p][:p]... Zone Meets in New England are just terrific.....Next year will be in Sturbridge Mass....can't wait!!

Dave Thibeault, we all appreciate your parts vending..what would we do without you?? The Mallory Uni-Lite Dist is just beautiful...thank's for having it custom made for all Stude V-8 owners!![:p][:p][:p]

We can now retire the "Mickey Mouse" Pertronix units[:o)][:o)]....

You can still buy Mallory Uni-Lites for Stude V8s? Then why are we messing around with these d**n Prestolites? My Prestolite by last count has something over $400 invested in it and it is still a d**n Prestolite. There (apparently) are a lot of "best kept secrets" in this hobby. Almost every day I learn something on this forum. Let me restate the obvious: Malloy distributors can be purchased new for our favorite V8? That's a question!

Is there a problem with Pertronix? I just put one in my 48 Champion and would like to know if I should be looking for any kind of problems with it.

Dave's Mallory unit is indeed a thing of beauty.....
But don't slam the Pertronix for those that would rather fix than switch...

Dave's Mallory units are brand new 100% pretty units....
I just received mine and am totally impressed with it.
Worth every penny for a new distributor!

Gary,
I would say that if one wants to stay all factory....stay with the point dist....but, if one wants to upgrade ..for whatever reason...then go to the Mallory...a fully engineered piece..proven over the last 40 years....and uses light as the trigger...man I need a bib just thinking about installing one.....[:p][:p][:p](I know...I need to get a life....Christ...Studebaker is my life!!)

PS....Dave Thibeault also rebuilds the dual point dist....1000% better then new!!!

DEEPNHOCK, Please explain to me rather fix than switch. I just installed pertronix in my 48 Champion and now am hearing negative things about them, so I am worried that I may have done the wrong thing! Thank You for any light you can shed on the subject.:)

at the end of the banquet we all looked at our awards and someone noticed that "studebaker was spelled" studelbaker on all the awards!!!
they were all given out already and most had left the rooom.
I hope these are like stamps from the post office and the mistakes make them more disirable...hahaha.R

Champ, I've installed pertronix on two vehicles that I drive and love it. I have had no problems whatsoever. Highly recommended!. Not knocking the uni-light.

The other unit could be better, could be worse, I don't know. But, I do know lots of folks have used the Pertronix system for lots of years, with great success.

Studedude,

I utilized the Pertronix unit shortly after they built one for the dual point Prestolite....maybe early examples were not qc'ed enough...I had mine crap out on me.....I put back the fully re-built dual point (by Thibeault) and never looked back... ...I will say that the Pertronix company is a new-born so to speak compared to Mallory...and IMHO Thibeault is to be thanked by every Studebaker lover (both 6 and 8) for getting Mallory to manufacture a uni-lite for us Stude nuts! It's not like this will be a huge profit center for them!
