I've made mention of this truck a couple years ago. There's a Producer's Dairy refridgerated delivery truck that's been supplying milk and ice cream ever since it was new in 1960!
I just happened to discover it when I stopped off in Merced in '03 while on my way home from the '03 SDC Nats. I subsequently started helping it's owner (he was under contract to Producer's Dairy Products) when the odd part was needed. I think the first thing I help out with was a horn button retainer and a parking lite assy.
Anyway, the guy retired from his route and sold said same along with the Stude truck to a new fella. Producers had given the previous owner a nice, new paint job on the Stude. I understand they're enthusiastic about the Stude as a point of advertizing for thier products.
Well, a couple of months ago, out of the blue, the new owner called to ask if I had a new or good used Studebaker V8 for sale. The fallout from our conversation ended up with Studebaker Ken getting the job of making the trucks 259 new again.
The engine's on it's way back together again. New crank and other bits were involved. I got to see some of the cleaned and painted bits the other day when I was up to shoot pics of the '55 coupe I
put on ebay for Ken.
Pretty amazing that this 60 Stude truck's still running a daily route to earn it's keep.
Here's the engine just after it was dissected by Ken.
